Summary

Anglo Saxon burial ground. Anglo-Saxon burials (skeletons, weapons, brooch with garnets, shoeshaped stud, bronze wheel ornament, wire bracelet) were found in 1823 on the site of Lancastrian School and on the east side of Wheeler Street, Maidstone, in 1836. Urns, one with two handles, were also found. A 6th century AD circular brooch, a bone pendant, a buckle, a stud and a wheel ornament from this site are in Maidstone Museum. The site lies on a gentle south-west slope towards the River Medway.
