Full Description
In 1993 a watching brief was undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust on the fields to the east of Canterbury Hill and St Stephens Hill, Tyler Hill. At St. Stephen's Hill extensive depostits of late 12th - early 13th century pottery and tile, particularly cooking pots were found. This is only the second time that c.1150-1200 pottery has been found in the Tyler Hill area. Ash, charcoal and fired daub suggest production in immediate vicinity. An 1896 penny was found in the topsoil also. (1)
