Monument record TR 15 NE 440 - Early Post-Medieval Building(s) Lower Chantry Lane, Canterbury

Summary

Evaluation trenching prior to housing development. Three trenches were excavated. In one a possible medieval clay pit was found (TR 15 NE 439) and in the other two trenches 18th century ploughing had truncated one or two buildings with at least two phases of clay floors with clay-bonded chalk and flint wall footings. A burnt clay hearth was found in one room and some pits and post holes, although these may be of a later date. Maps od the early to mid 17th century show buildings on the site.
