Monument record TQ 57 SW 238 - Bowman's Lodge Gravel Pit
Summary
Bowmans former sand and gravel quarry located directly east of Wansunts Pit (TQ 57 SW 237). Linked via a tunnel passing under Station Road (now completely buried), the quarry was a relatively late extension to Wansunts Pit and was not active until the second quarter of the C20. It was latterly used as a waste landfill, and now has been completely backfilled and lies redundant, covered with scrub. Sections of the quarry edge are still partially visible along northern boundary adjacent to Bowmans Road. A palaeololithic working site was discoverd in the pit ( TQ 57 SW 16).
