Monument record TR 36 NW 423 - Probable late Neolithic - early Bronze Age round barrow, Hartsdown, Near Margate

Summary

A probable late Neolithic - early Bronze Age round barrow was identified near Shottendane Farm. The outer ditch appeared to have a causeway entrance. The inner ditch was only half a circle. Evidence found during an evaluation at the site in 1995 suggested the ditches were nearly full by the Iron Age when the site was disturbed by a settlement. Visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs.

The cropmark traces of this barrow are visible on aerial photographs: CUCAP BTG83 26-JUN-1975 and NMR 3115/0086 02-JUL-1986, appearing as a penannular ring ditch with a diameter of c.19m with an interruped inner circuit of c. 10m and a central pit.
