Full Description
During evaluation trenching a shallow down-cutting in the chalk was found, from which at least one vertical shaft descends to an unknown depth. Similar sites have been found in the Margate area and have been interpreted as entrances to Neolithic-Early Bronze Age flint mines. A number of Bronze Age enclosures were found at the same time to the north-west (TR 36 NE 430). (1)
