Summary

Remains of the former St. Margaret's vicarage were found during archaeological investigations; built in the 18th century it was demolished in the 1950s. Comprised chalk and flint, and brick walls and a brick soakaway. Summary from record TQ 86 NW 195: Walls, floor and cobbled surface of a late 15th - 17th century building. Identified during archaeological investigations in 2002 and 2004. Possibly part of an early Vicarage to St. Margaret's (TQ 86 NW 16) and a predecessor to TQ 86 NW 196. Summary from record TQ 86 NW 197: Site of a late medieval building - late 15th century. Chimney baser or external oven associated with a timber-framed building of which no trace survives. The chimney type structure was made of Kentish ragstone

Full Description

Remains of the former vicarage to St. Margaret's (TQ 86 NW 16). Built in the 18th century it was modified in the 19th, and demolished in the 1950's. Trenching revealed chalk and flint, and brick walls and a brick soakaway. (1 - 2)

Description from record TQ 86 NW 195:
Chalk and flint wall footings and a brick floor surface, in association with a flint cobble yard surface. This may have been an early vicarage to St. Margaret's (TQ 86 NW 16) and a predecessor to TQ 86 NW 196. (1 - 2)

Description from record TQ 86 NW 197:
A structure of Kentish rag stone believed to represent a chinmey base or outside oven associated with a timber-framed building, pre-dating the late 15th century, of which nothing now remains.(1- 2)
