Full Description

A watching brief during the construction of the Inner Relief Ring Road, Sheerness (now Millennium Way) found 4 circular features, representing the remains of heavily truncated 19th century cess pits. At least 3 of these had been lined with wooden barrels with their bases removed. During their period of use, the pits were likely to have been within small detached toilet buildings located behind individual dwellings.(1)
