Full Description
The Zion Baptist Church built in 1821. It was a rectangular building approximately 22.50m long and 11m wide. The church was approached by a flight of steps into an entrance foyer. The nave measured about 14m in length and at its east end a D-shaped area measuring about 6m by 5m was situated, within which was a sunken font. Within the church two brick burial vaults were found and a small cemetery was situated at the front of the building and demolished sometime between 1999 - 2002. A watching brief on builing work uncovered the foundations of the church and the brick vaults found eariler. The burials from the vaulta nd the cemetery had been emptied during the demolition phase.(1)
