Full Description

Observation of new foundation trenches at 37 East Street, revealed two phases of post medieval building foundations and post medieval deposits. The earliest of these features were the dump deposits, which filled the undated possible quarry feature (TQ 96 SW 210). The first phase of building foundation has been dated to the late 18th century, a rectangular room which contained some surviving floor deposits. This structure fronted the street and abutted no.35. To the rear of these foundations, the foundations of a mid nineteenth century extension were recorded, cutting garden soil deposits to the rear of the property. Overlying all of these features was a large amount of modern demolition material, although the the date of demolition of the structures is not recorded [1].
