Summary

In 1921 several burial urns were found on the high ground between the village of Aylesford and The Friars but were broken by the workmen who found them. The urns were of 1st to 4th century coarse grey ware. They are possibly in store at Maidstone Museum.

Full Description

Several burial urns were found in 1921 on the high ground between the village of Aylesford and The Friars but they were broken by the workmen who found them. A fragment is in Maidstone Mus. (1) [TQ 72635899] RB sherds found 1921. In Maid. Mus. (2) Finds are still in the Mus. The siting is fairly accurate, to within 10 metres. [see Authy 2] (3) Antiquity Model survey done. (4) In store in Maidstone Museum "from Aylesford" is some 1st - 4th c. AD coarse grey ware, which probably came from this site, which is now wooded waste ground. (5)
