Full Description

During an excavation in 1997, evidence of a medieval manor house was discovered in the form of a double cellared structure of chalk walls against the exposed natural chalk face, but with a flint wall along the western and northern sides. Theses may represent different phases of construction. At a later date, between the 16th and 17th centuries, the building was extended to the east incorporating an additional cellar. The new southern wall extension was constructed using both brick and dressed chalk. The few finds form the backfill of both cellars date the buildings destruction to between 1730 and 1780. The building was replaced by West Court (TQ 67 SE 242) built in 1739
