[TQ 70985805] St. Peter's Ch. [TU] (1) The church of Ditton is dedicated to St. Peter. It is a small building with a west tower. [History of church from temp. Henry II to date of writing given.] (2) The church consists of nave and chancel with modern north vestry, and west tower. The tower is Norman, with square-and-trefoil-headed single lights, and with an Early English west doorway, with a twin-light 15c window above. The nave has single ogee-headed, and twin lights of 13-15thc. date. In the south wall is a blocked-up Early English doorway and two of the windows are modern restorations. The fabric is of ragstone and ironstone. The church, which is in good condition, is in use for ecclesiastical purposes. GP AO/59/8/5 from North-West of the Tower " 8/6 from North-East. General view. (3) Ditton, near Maidstone, has a late 11c. priests' doorway in to the chancel, but, uncommonly, on the north side. (4) In normal use. Ragstone rubblestone with dressed stone dressings, plain tiled roof. West tower, nave chancel. Plain C15 2-stage tower with string below plain coped parapet. Main entrance in west front of tower. 3-window nave with 2 unrestored early C14 windows to east; curvilinar tracery. 2-window chancel; C15 square-headed windows with drip moulds a cusped pointed arched lights. Early C14-type east window added by Scott. Interior: Braced and trussed roof with plaster infilling. Chancel arch replaced by Scott. Monuments: Richard Brown, d. 1672, erected after 1691.
