Summary

Full Description
The handaxe was recovered during the cutting of a building stanchion. It was found by the digger driver in his bucket while making the cut 5m deep through 'Head Brickearth' and pockets of 'Clay with flints' into underlying Chalk bedrock. (1) The handaxe was un-patinated and in fresh condition, possibly suggesting minimal spatial movement since its discard in Palaeolithic times.
