Findspot record TQ 75 NW 49 - Neolithic flint sickle and Mesolithic flint pick found at Allington, Maidstone

Summary

In 1910 Mr Norman Bunyard found a Mesolithic flint while digging at Bunyards Nursery, Allington. A Neolithic flint sickle was also found at the Nursery site at an unknown date. The site has since been developed as a housing estate. The items are kept at Maidstone Museum.

Full Description

A piece of a Ne. flint sickle and Me. flint pick from Bunyard's Nursery, Allington, Maidstone, on exhibition in Maidstone Museum were presented by the late Mrs G Bunyard (a) about 1920 (b). Mr Norman Bunyard cannot remember the date or circumstances of discovery concerning the Ne-implement, but he found the pick whilst digging about 1910 on a part of the nursery now built over, at 'A' TQ 7392 5699. The sickle had been sited to the area of the nursery as it existed c.1910 (b), centred at TQ 7350 5700. (1)
