The air raid shelter was situated at the edge of the school property. It was one storey, flat roofed oblong building with no distinctive features apart from three entrances in the wall facing the school. Much of the building was obscured by ivy or otherwise inaccessible. The materials used were yellow stock brick, 62mm in height, with a coarse lime mortar that contained visible pieces of stone. The building was 26 courses high in English bond. The maximum height, measured to the flat surface of the roof at the north end was 2.22m

It was not possible to re open schools, after the public had lost faith in wholesale evacuation, unless air raid shelters were provided. Shelters built were very basic and in built up areas schools were forced to build free-standing shelters with brick walls on whatever area was available to them, usually the playground. Milton Court shelter may be seen as typical in this respect and it is not surprising that it reveals elements of prefabrication in its parts.

Planning permission was granted for its partial demolition in 2006, only the eastern wall was to be retained as a property boundary. (1)
