Full Description

The groundworks exposed natural grey-brown sandy clay with gravel inclusions. The deposit was overlain by a 0.32m thick band of sandy silt containing flint gravel. Among this gravel were occasional abraded brick or tile fragments. The excavator believed that due to the stratigraphic position these were likely to be of Romano-British date. A thin peaty deposit overlay this deposit which was in turn overlain by a further deposit of silty clay with further fragments of the same brick or tile. It in turn was overlain by probable hillwash.
