Full Description
In 2007 a single archaeological trench was excavated at the site (23-25 Broadway, Maidstone) in advance of development. The foundations of a sandstone wall were discovered running east-west across the site but no other archaeological finds or features. The mortar suggested a early post medieval date or possibly even medieval. No sign of the wall can be seen on the 1844 tithe map and so the excavators concluded that the wall was certainly earlier than 1844 date and possibly rather older than that.(1)
