Description from record TQ 83 SW 11:
5272 ROLVENDEN MAYTHAM ROAD Gatehouse to Great Maytham (formerly listed as Gateway) TQ 8430 19/319 4.6.52. II* (TQ 84883074 - sited from HHR) 2. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for H J Tennant in 1909-12. It consists of a carriage archway with a lodge or cottage on each side of it. Grey bricks (all stretchers) with red brick window dressings and quoins. Hipped tiled roof. On the inner face of the carriage archway are round windows and above it a clock face and wooden cupola. On the north-east side facing the road the Lodges flanking the archway are L-shaped. The portions immediately flanking the archway are of one storey and attics with one window bay each flanked by pilasters with a single window each at 1st floor level only, a moulded wooden cornice and a parapet over. The inner or south-west side of the Gatehouse facing the house has 3 windows and 3 dormers on each side of the carriage archway, all with segmental heads. (1) The Lodge to Great Maytham (TQ 83 SW 10) is distinctly more energetically designed than the house. (2)
