[TQ 75435422] Romano-British burials found AD 1885 and 1905 [TI] (1)

At Tovil, three quarter mile south of Maidstone, human skeletons and Roman pottery have been found "on more than one occassion". No details of the discoveries are known. (2)

Constables Quarry (named after its former owners Messrs Constable Hart Ltd) centred TQ 753541, was bought c.1940 by Reeds Paper Mills. Various alterations have been made to it in adapting it for use as a factory site but no further discoveries have been made. Three coarse ware 2nd c. jars, a flagon and a dish from this quarry are in store, Maidstone Museum, but no details of their discovery are known. The find spot is given on the Museum 6" as TQ 7543 5422. (4)
