The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 5272 EGERTON THE STREET (south-east side) Hopkins General Stores and Post Office TQ 94 NW 10/163 II GV 2. Early C19 facade, concealing a 2 bay hall-house dating from circa 1400, with crown posts and a central truss with ovolo mouldings. A floor was inserted in the early C16. There is a bressumer over the ground floor fire-place with mouldings. The exterior is of 2 storeys red brick. Hipped tiled roof. Six sashes, the one on the extreme left with cambered architrave. Modern shop-front and simple doorcases.
