Monument record TQ 75 SW 1 - Roman Burials at East Farleigh

Summary

Two cremation burials were found in 1845 at Gallants Court, on the east side of Gallants Lane south of Gallants Farm. One burial consisted of a black globular urn containing ashes and an ornamented white bronzed Castor vessel together with fragments of other vessels, all placed in a stone cist. Another was found with pottery vessels, including a samian patera stamped Habicnsm, and two coins. Both coins were badly worn but one is of Faustina. The whereabouts of the finds is unknown. The find site is under a long established orchard.
