TR 04 SE BRABOURNE WEST BRABOURNE
4/44 California Farm II
House. C16 or earlier, refaced c.1600. Timber framed and clad with ragstone base and red brick in English bond. Plain tiled roof. L- shaped plan. Two storeys on tall stone plinth, in parts raised into ground floor. Hipped roof, with large offset projecting stack to left, with tumbled-in brickwork, the stack roughcast with moulded cornice. A second similar stack was formerly to rear of recessed side wing, since removed. One wooden casement on each floor, with boarded door to right. Recessed wing to right, with second door. Irregular fenestration to return and rear walls, with rendered chamfered surrounds to 1 on left return and 1 o ear wall, originally with brick mullions. Interior: chamfered cross-beamed ceilings with quirk-stops. Three Gothick panelled doors. Exposed gunstock-jowls to interior posts. Roof (reached by straight flight ΒΌ log stair) with clasped purlins and wind braces.
