Full Description
On permanent loan to Maidstone Museum is a Gallo-Belgic E Morinic uniface gold stater presented by Capt. W. A. Cable, late of 94 Warwick Park, Tunbridge Wells, now of 'The Cottage', Teston; it was part of a collection formed in the late 19th c. by his brother, the late Mr. J. Cable. The exact provenance, date or circumstances of this find are not known. Capt. Cable's sister, Mrs. Bond, said it was found by a ploughman named Chapman, ostensibly at his cottage centred TQ 70435350, but she has always been of the opinion that it came from the Ro. villa site (TQ 65 SE 19) land farmed by her father. However the Chapman family have left the district many years and this point could not be resolved. (1)
