Description from record TQ 84 SE 15:
TQ 879420, Smarden: The remains of a post mill in the grounds of Mill House.  Only the massive oak centre post and supporting timbers now remain on the high mound.  The windshaft lies on the ground nearby. The date of construction is uncertain, the date 1871 carved on the centre post being the date timbers were renewed. The mill collapsed in 1953 having been disused since the First World War.   (1) 5272  Smarden,  Cage Lane. Remains of Windmill in grounds of Mill House (formerly listed as Smarden Windmill) TQ 8741  30/21A     17 9 52 Grade 2 C18 or earlier.  Remains of post mill.  this consists of the wooden upright which formerly turned the mill and 4 beams resting on 4 red brick piers.   (2)
