4/44 Wheel House and Donkey Wheel at 27.11.57 Eggarton Manor
II
Wheelhouse. C17 and C18. Timber framed and clad in red brick flint and weatherboard and part rebuilt in red brick. Plain tile roof. One storey on plinth, with partial dogtooth cornice to hipped roof with gablets. Interior: Donkey wheel. Original shaft with wide chamfers and ogee stops; wheel spokes with thin chamfers and run out stops. Shaft and wheel house structurally interdependant and therefore contemporary. Roof with arched braces, collars, clasped purlins, diminishing principles and windbraces. (see Royal Commission on Historic Monuments, Report, 1975, November).
