Summary

A mid 2nd century AD cremation burial and items of pottery were found in Barming Woods in 1973. The cremated bones, which were in a large Patch Grove ware jar, were too few to identify age or gender of the deceased.Other grave finds were a small flagon, a beaker (details unknown) and a Gaulish samian dish (Form 18/31) stamped TIIRITIOM. The exact find site is unknown.

Full Description

A mid 2nd c. AD cremation burial found in Barming Woods in 1973 with pottery. The grave finds consisted of four vessels: a large Patch Grove ware jar, which contained the cremation, a small flagon, a beaker and a Gaulish samian dish (Form 18/31) stamped TIIRITIOM. The sex and age of the deceased is not known due to the small quantity of bone recovered. (Barming Woods are not described on OS 1:10,000, 1976. East Barming is show at TQ 7254 and an area of woodland within the parish at TQ 7054).
