Description from record TQ 94 SW 3 :
Hecchisdenne or Etchden is mentioned in 1389 as Heithesdenne in Betevisdene. The house has no remains of antiquity but the moat, partly filled with water, is still to be seen. A wooden cattle shed has always been called "the chapel," and a few years ago a paved path leading to it from the house was discovered below the soil. There is a mention in a will of a bequest to the "Light of the Blessed Mary of Achenden" in 1471(3).
Etchden farmhouse is a Kentish yeoman's house of the 14/15c. but heavily restored and much altered with brickwork to be no longer of architectural interest. The enclosing moat, which for its S side utilised a stream, is reduced to a pond on the W side and a waterfilled ditch on the N. side. But its course can be traced for most of its original length. (25" AM has been revised). The alleged site of the chapel is occupied by a cattle shed as described above and no trace of it remains (4).
Checked and correct: survey of 19.12.61(5)
Etchden Farm is not listed in the County checklist of moated sites in Kent - December 1979. (6)
