The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 1715 HIGH STREET (North Side)
Nos 138 & 140 TQ 8833 1/59
II GV
2. Early C19 facade. 2 storeys and attics red brick. Tiled roof with bracket eaves cornice. 2 sashes and 1 dormer each with glazing bars missing. No 138 has 2 bay windows on the ground floor and a doorcase with low rectangular fanlight, 6 panelled moulded door (the top 2 panels cut away and glazed) and a flat hood over. The west half is a large C19 house of 2 storeys red brick. Tiled roof with 1 hipped dormer. 2 double sashes on 1st floor and 2 bays on ground floor. The side elevation to No 138 is tile-hung. Graded II for group value.
Nos 138 to 142 (even) form a group with Nos 2 and 4/6 West Cross.
