Summary

A suspected cremation burial group found during excavations at Croneens Brickworks in 1935. Whilst there were no remaining calcined bone traces, finds included an olla, a portion of an amphora, a large urn and a Samian dish. The finds were dated to the 1st century AD and were last seen in Gillingham Museum.

Full Description

During excavations at Croneens Brickworks, in 1935, an olla, a portion of an amphora, a large (? cinearary) urn and a Samian dish, all 1st c., were discovered by Rhodes who pointed out the exact site at TQ 7779 6862. No calcined bones were seen but it is considered that this was probably a burial. The pottery, mainly Upchurch ware, and the Samian dish (form 36) were seen in Gillingham Museum during investigation.
