Summary

A Palaeolithic handaxe was found at Gillingham House c.1900. It was last known to be in Gillingham Museum. Gillingham Museum has been demolished and the exhibits dispersed; the exact whereabouts of this find is now uncertain.

Full Description

A Palaeolithic handaxe found c. 1900 in the back garden of Gillingham House; it was last seen in Gillingham Museum during routine investigation. The findspot at TQ 7832 6907 was pointed out by Rhodes (1). Gillingham Museum has now been demolished and the exhibits dispersed (2). Additional references (3, 4, 5, 6).
