Findspot record TQ 76 NE 64 - Gold torc, Chatham Lines

Summary

A gold Torc was uncovered in 1873 by the Royal Engineers while engaged in field operations on Chatham Lines between Sally Port and the Brompton Barrier. It was half an inch in diameter at its thickest part and 12 1/2inches long when spread out full length.

Full Description

[TQ 75 67 Sited to locality only] Gold torque dug up in 1873 by the Royal Engineers while engaged in some field operations on Chatham Lines between Sally Port and the Brompton Barrier. It resembles a finely twisted rope, half an inch in diameter in its thickest part. If spread out lengthways it would be 12 1/2inches long, although it appears to have been larger.
