TR 04 SE BROOK THE STREET (west side)
4/62 Yew Tree House

House. Circa 1600, altered C19. Timber framed and clad with red brick and fish-scale tile hung first floor, with plain tiled roof. Lobby entry plan of central entry/stack bay and flanking rooms of different sizes. Two storeys to hipped roof with gablets and off-centre stack. Two box-framed sashes with central small wooden casement on first floor, and 2 wooden casements on ground floor. Boarded central door with sidelight in large C20 porch. One storey and attic C20 extension to rear, with roof stepped up from main range, stack and boarded door. Interior: evidence of continuous jetty on both long sides and of wooden mullioned window. Clasped purlin and wind brace roof. Unheated upper room to smaller framed bay. An unusual house plan in this area. (See Traditional Kent Buildings, Vol. 5).
