The following text is from the original listed building designation:
APPLLEDORE                  THE STREET 1. 5272                                           (west side)                                                The Old Watch House TQ 9529 15/15 II 2. Early C19.  One storey Kentish ragstone with red brick dressings.  Hipped slate roof with massive chimneystack.  Two sashes with verticals only.  Pedimented porch. This may have been built to keep a watch on the Royal Military Canal.
