Description from record TQ 94 NW 21:
(TQ 93694819) Newlands Stud (NAT) (1) 5272 Newlands Stud Farmhouse, Newlands Road, Charing. TQ 94 NW 10/74 Grade 2*. L-shaped timber-framed building, possibly dating from late Norman period, refronted in C18. The exterior is of 2 storeys and attics. Red brick with grey headers. Hipped tiled roof. Four sashes with glazing bars intact. Doorcase with flat hood over. The east window bay projects. the interior has exposed curved braces, roof with 2 crown posts and a moulded tie beam. (2) The house, in essence mediveal and timber-framed, had an open hall with a roof structure on deep arch-braces. Information from S. Rigold. (3)

The exterior is of 2 storeys and attics. Red brick with grey headers. Hipped tiled roof. Four sashes with glazing bars intact. Doorcase with flat hood over. The east window bay projects. A timber framed house with a formerly open 2-bay hall and upper end. The upper end was formerly jettied at the end. The lower end has been demolished. In the 16th century the upper bay of the hall was floored over. In the 17th and 19th centuries new ranges were constructed at the front of the house. (5)
