Monument record TQ 76 NW 13 - Roman-vessel and possible graves, Pipers House, Frindsbury Extra

Summary

A circular earthen ware vessel dug up in a hop garden at the back of Piper's House in 1844. The vessel was glazed with ornamentation and stamped; identified as possibly Samian ware. Graves are said to have occurred nearby but no further details are known. The finds are perhaps connected with the building at Quarry House (TQ 76 NW 16).

Full Description

In 1844 an almost circular earthen vessel, glazed, ornamented and stamped - probably Samian - was dug up in a hop garden at the back of Piper's House. Remains of graves are said to have occurred near the surface of the chalk, but no more details are recorded. The finds are perhaps connected with the building at Quarry House.
