Full Description
Three Roman burials in chalk-cut cists, were found in 1895, by convicts digging post holes for a fence between the south wall of Borstal Prison and the Borstal Fort railway. The heads were respectively to W, NE and SW. A small brown urn and black patera were with the first burial: the second was unaccompanied. The third, which was extended, had a small brown vase, also two iron nails and fragments of wood indicating a coffin burial. (1) [TQ 73576603] Roman Remains found A.D.1895 [T.I.] (2)
