(TR 09084854) Huntstreet (NAT) (1) II Huntstreet Farmhouse Originally called Cake's Yoke Farm. On the map called Hutstreet. Probably C.15 timber framed building with mostly plaster infilling but some painted brick infilling, on a base of flints, the first floor of the northernmost w. bay oversailing on the protruding ends of the floor joists with curved braces, the ground floor below is close studded with a bay w. on a red brickbase. The southernmost w. bay probably once was similar but has been underbuilt. Between is a bay of 2 tiers of 4 lights on the ground floor on a red brick base, and of 2 tiers of 5 lights on the first floor with ornamental timbering below it. Above this is a gable oversailing on a bressummer and carved brackets with carved bargeboards and pendant and containing rectangles of pargetting and an attic w. Tiled roof. Case. ws. 2s. 4w. Sir Charles Igglesden's "Rambles through Kent with a Pen and Pencil" says that the house once had a porch with the date 1595 and the initials "W.C." and "M.C." on it. The first floor of the north and west fronts oversails on the protruding ends of the floor joists. Modern addition behind. (2) TR04 NE CRUNDALE HUNT STREET (west side) 6/28 Hunt Street Farmhouse 13.10.52 GV Hall house. C15 and C17. Timber framed and exposed with plaster infill and painted brick infill to ground floor. Plain tile roof. Two storeys and attic on rubble plinth. First floor end-jettied to left, and jettied to the front to right. Hipped roof with gablets and projecting end stack to left, and large stack to right. Central 2 storey gable, added c. 1595 with decorative framing and pargetted plaster panels on first floor and oversailing gable with carved bargeboards. Irregular fenestration of 4 windows, wood casement, with 2-storey bay window in central gable, and squre bay window to right. Linen-fold panelled door in moulded surround to screens passage left, in gabled porch. Interior: although now under 1 roof north-south, the right end bay has an inner roof running west-east. Stack and first floor inserted in hall c. 1595 with 2-storey gable (porch originally intitialled to Chapman family and dated 1595.). In 1971 a shoe of c. 1605 and 1/2 bushel weight found in niche in chimney reference to local building superstitions. Formerly knows as "Cake's Yoke, since named after Hunte family, tenants in C15. See Igglesden XXXII, and Wye Local History Magazine Autumn 1980. (3) Hunt Street Farm, unrestored. Originally a Wealden House. In the C17th a large gabled bay was put on to the centre of it. (4)
