Description from record TR 03 NE 17 :
(TR 05203938) Mersham Manor (NAT) (1) "By Mersham church is ... Court Lodge, with its C14th windows, and its ancient barn." (2) The Court Lodge, Mersham, in the walls of which are several gothic arched windows and doorways of ashlar stone. (3) Mersham Manor, known to the present owners as the Manor House, and formerly Court Lodge, is a stone building which, according to the owners, dates from the first half of the 14th century (there is nothing in the architecture to deny this) and was originally a hall-house, converted and altered in the late 17th c. to its present appearance. The building is an exceptionally good example of a hall house and it is in good condition. (See GP. AO/62/293/6 from SE). To the NW, is a large wooden tithe barn. (4) No change. (5) 16/2 Mersham Manor, Mersham. Grade II. On the Salvage List, the Kent County Planning Officer's List and the Interim Selective List called Court Lodge, but the latter is now a modern house nearby. Medieval, possibly C14, building 2s. 5w. Faced with stone rubble. Very steeply-pitched hipped tiled roof. Cased. ws. The east front has 1 stone wq. of 2 cinquefoil-headed lights, 1 tall w. rising through both floors with stone mullions and transoms and 1 pointed stone doorway, now made into a w. Small C.19 addition to the north. The west front is white-washed. Sash ws. with gl. bars intact, but only 2 ws. to this front and 1 tall modern hipped dormer. C.18 doorway with flat hood on brackets and 6 panel door. 16/2A Barn at Mersham Manor Grade III To the north-west of the house. C18. Faced with tarred weather-boarding. Hipped tiled roof witha projecting hip over the waggon entrance. (6) (TR 05203938) Manor House (NR) (7) Court Lodge, Decorated stone house with a big hipped roof and a small C19th north addition. House. Early to mid C14, altered late C18, extended mid C19. Ragstone, painted to entrance elevation and extended with ragstone (part painted) with red brick dressings. Plain tiled roof. Hall house plan. Entrance elevation: 2 storeys and attic with tall hipped roof and gablets, with hipped dormer and stacks to rear right and at end left in roof valley to gabled C19 extension. Glazing bar sash to left and tripartite glazing bar sash to right on each floor with 1 glazing bar sash to each floor in C19 wing, and with small light to upper left, and central glazed doors. Rear elevation with blocked through-passage opening, with hollow and roll moulds, with stone jambed light,ogee headed window over (to solar) and large restored hall window, with mullion and transom, and cusped traceried head with concave sided hexagon. Sash to C19 wing with boarded doors below. The rear elevation details have become clearer since removal of later stacks etc. Interior: most internal divisions altered; the C19 wing replaces a lost service wing. Scissor braced roof.
