Monument record TQ 76 NW 38 - Early-medieval burial, Rochester

Summary

An Anglo-Saxon burial consisting of just the lower jaw bone, found early in 1939 at the south end of Short Brothers' aeroplane works at Rochester. Grave goods comprised a shield umbo, two spearheads and a long sword. The present whereabouts of these finds is uncertain. The site lies on low-lying groundon the eastern bank of the river Medway, OD between 10-15m.
