The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TR 04 NW BOUGHTON ALUPH MALTHOUSE LANE (north west side)
5/21 Nos. 4 and 5, Malthouse
II
2 cottages. C16 with C18 addition. Timber framed and clad in brick on ground floor, a tile hung on first floor, with plain tile roof. No. 5, to right possibly an early C16 Wealden House, the jetties and recessed hall disguised by the later cladding. 2 storeys, with a steeply hipped roof with gablets, large ridge stack to right behind entrance, small end stack to right. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows, C19 casements with C20 tripartite sashes on ground floor. C19 door to right with flat hood on brackets. No. 4 to left is C18 addition, in brick, separately roofed with plain tile hip to front. 2 storeys with small truncated end stack on left. 1 window, a glazing bar sash in segment headed opening, with a plain plank door to right.
