Monument record TQ 55 NE 10 - St Edith's Holy Well at Kemsing

Summary

St. Edith's Well in the centre of Kemsing village is said to have healing properties. The stone enclosure walls are modern but the stonework lining the well itself is probably medieval. A nearby plaque carries the following notice. "St. Edith of Kemsing 961-984. This well lay within the precincts of the Covent where St. Edith, daughter of King Edgar, passed her childhood. Hallowed by her presence, its waters became a source of healing". No documentary evidence has been found to support the claim for the Convent at Kemsing though.
