Monument record TQ 76 NW 51 - Roman burial vessels, White Hart Inn, Cuxton

Summary

Roman pottery was found in 1860 during work to excavate the foundations of the White Hart Inn, Cuxton. The red lustrous ware vessels probably belonged to a sepulchral interment. One cup had the potter's name MATERNVS stamped on the bottom. The vessels were originally sent to Cobham Hall but their present location is now unknown.
