Description from record TR 15 NW 243:
Nos 39 and 40 North Lane,  Nos 14, 15 and 16 St Stephen's Fields [TR 14755834 - sited from HHR map].  Grade II.  An L-shaped 15thc timber-framed building refaced in the 18thc.  (1) No 39 North Lane.  Part of timber-framed building, altered in 17th and 18th centuries. No 40 North Lane.  Part of medieval timber-framed building, altered in 17th and 18th centuries.  (2)

2. An L-shaped C15 timber-framed building refaced in the C18.   2 storeys painted brick.  Tiled roof, hipped on the right side.  2 dormers.  Wooden modillion cornice.  1 sash and one "Gothick" leaded light each.   Glazing bars intact except for the ground floor of No 39.  Stringcourses.  Pair of doorcases with vestigial weather hoods and 6 panelled doors.  The side elevation is of 2 storeys with 4 dormers.  Some sashes.  Later C19 central porch in a rustic style.  No 16 has a 2 storey timber framed building attached with brick infilling and an asbestos clad roof.  Skylight.  The other side has a 3 light bay with Gothick pointed lights.
These buildings form a Grade II group.
