Description from record TR 15 NE 956:
Parry Hall at the King’s School was requisitioned in July 1941 to house a municipal restaurant, providing cheap but nutritious meals-out to bolster public morale: ‘Adults were charged ninepence, this sum included a meat and sweet course, also soup. Children were charged fourpence for the same amount.’ (Parry Hall replaced the existing municipal restaurant at the Prince of Wales’ Institute on Northgate). In early September 1941 the Principal of the School of Art was asked to arrange for its decoration, and it seems to have opened on 25 of that month. Access was via the excellent ‘Norman’ staircase in Green Court.
