Summary
Medieval Islamic brass trapping found in the garden of 25 St. Margaret's Street in 1979. It was dated to the 12th century AD and was used as decoration for a belt, purse or harness. The trapping may well have been brought to Rochester by a returning crusader. Now in the British Museum.

Full Description
(TQ 7410 6820) A medieval Islamic brass trapping was found in the garden of 25 St Margaret's Street in 1979 at (TQ 7410 6820 sited from OS 1:2500, 1970) by the owner Mr K. Holland. The trapping is dated to the C12th AD and would seem to be a purely decorative accoutrement fora belt, purse or harness. The trapping may well have been brought to Rochester by a returning crusader (see illustration card). The trapping has been presented to the British Museum. (1) Similar details. (2)
