Monument record TQ 76 NW 124 - Post medieval well, 50 High Street, Rochester

Summary

A chalk lined well excavated to a depth of 14ft below the floor of the cellar of No.50. The general character of the pottery finds recovered is typical of the sixteenth century. It is significant that there were no Delft ware sherds in the well, nor any clay tobacco pipes, this negative evidence being useful in assessing the terminus post quem for the filling of the well.
