Listed Building record TR 15 NE 721 - WALL TO LEFT OF EAST KENT SESSIONS HOUSE

Summary

Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1066 to 1545. Medieval wall to the left of East Kent Sessions House and forming part of the eastern boundary of the precincts of St Augustine's Abbey. About 15ft high and made of flint, ashlar and brick with brick coping along part of its height. It has a four centred stone arch now blocked with brick. This is thought to be the remains of a former gateway for a road exiting the lay cemetery to the east and leading to St Martin's Hill. The gateway probably existed in use at least until the time of the Dissolution. Scheduled, listed and in guardianship.
