Description from record TR 16 NE 1262:
From mid May 1940, the ‘Headquarters’ Company of the 8 Royal Fusiliers occupied ‘The Priory’ on Canterbury Road. The Battalion headquarters were nearby, at Herne Bay College. The company will immediately have begun digging slit-trenches in the grounds. The 8 Royal Fusiliers left the district in November. Any subsequent use of the house is as yet unclear.
