[TQ 7820 6452] Flint Implements found AD 1927 [TI] (1) Surface finds of flint and implements ploughed out from an area of about 500 acres on a knoll in Drow Hill Woods south of Luton. Finds included polished flint axes both thin butted with oval section and thin butted with square sides (all reworked), leaf shaped arrowheads, scrapers, pounders and hand axes. Also much calcined flint. Although the writer mentions 'hand axes' he considers the implements to be all of one period i.e. Neolithic. See plan AO/61/285/4 (2) Perambulation of the area of these finds produced no further implements; enquiries at Drowhill cottages - the owners of the land, stated that to the best of their knowledge no finds had been made in recent years Finds from this site seen Gillingham Museum. (3) Gillingham Museum has been demolished and its contents dispersed. (4)
